Reduce production costs in door manufacturing

Objective

Reduce production costs in door manufacturing The painting process has a significant impact on manufacturing costs in the door industry. We assisted a manufacturer of price-sensitive interior and specialty doors in optimizing their painting process. The goal was to directly coat doors using HDF door coatings without using a water-based primer to reduce energy consumption and eliminate the need for the laborious roller cleaning process.

Challenge

  • Use of HDF substrates from various manufacturers
  • Requirement for highest process reliability and adhesion strength while eliminating the water-based adhesion promoter.
  • Covering a wide variety of colors in batch size 1
  • Fast processing to ensure short delivery times as part of a “Fast Lane”

Solution

Use of a full-UV structure consisting of CRY-LUX® adhesion promoter, CRY-LUX® primer, and water-dilutable HYDRO-UV paints of the HYDROLUX® HL56x product line. With just one basic setup, both roller coating and spray coating of 3D design doors are possible. The UV system can massively reduce drying times. There is maximum flexibility in terms of further processing
